Used Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG For Sale
With its E-Class roots, the Mercedes CLS63 AMG For Sale is following the other 2014 models into a new era. It’s not only hard-core performance. That can be saved for the Black Series cars. The luxury sedan sits as the highest trim, appealing to every driver that simply wants the best, even if they aren’t looking for an insane amount of horsepower. That’s not to say it still won’t offer an insane amount of power. From the whoosh of the twin turbochargers to the stampede of 575 ponies, the CLS is far from mundane. But, many are now putting their power down through an all-wheel-drive system, adding a little civility to what has been a crop of extremists. Instead of shredding the rear tires with nearly 600 foot-pounds of torque, the CLS now sends 33 percent of the engine’s power to the front, aiding acceleration and traction at the cost of smoky rear-wheel peel outs. It’s actually a better fit for the swoopy four-door coupé, which is more likely to make an impression at the valet stand of some gala event than intimidating muscle cars at the drag strip.
Every bang for the buck that could be imagined is found in the CLS63 S 4matic. Its 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 boasts 585 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque to give it a screaming 0-62 mph time of 3.6 seconds. Sitting on 19-inch staggered alloy wheels and AMG suspension with a seven-speed automatic transmission, the S 4matic is very serious about its driving roots. The interior is well designed and exceptionally well organized. Instead of having driver controls crammed into an LCD screen, all standard controls are in an intuitive cluster, and an eight-inch freestanding high-resolution screen sits above the central air vents.
All hail the power of a little friendly competition. The luxury four-door coupe market is stacked with talent constantly pushing the competition. As a result, the CLS63 AMG has pushed further than ever before, and it shows. Competing with the Audi RS7, BMW Gran Coupe, and Porsche Panamera Turbo, the CLS AMG is playing against heavy hitters. With the newest iteration of the CLS, Mercedes brought its ‘A’ game to the battle. To start, the super sedan’s AMG 5.5-litre V-8 bi-turbo engine not only packs 550 horsepower, it does it with remarkable efficiency. None of the AMG’s competitors can come close to its low fuel consumption numbers. But I was blown away by the efficiency with which it put the power to the road. Combined with its 4Matic all-wheel drive system, the bi-turbo engine powered the CLS63 from a complete stop to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, and it can handle its way around the track better than an Aston Martin Vantage. By the end of the day, it was easy to forget that the CLS63 is, in fact, a four-door.
